New training courses announced for this Autumn

Introduction to Significance Testing Using PSPP

Date:                 19th October & 26th October 2017
Location:           Cirencester
Trainer:             David Dipple
Bookings:          Please contact David at david.dipple@btinternet.com

This course will take you to the next step in statistical analysis by showing you how to determine if values are not only different, but whether that difference is statistically significant. This course is designed for anyone who has access to data and has a desire to want to look more deeply at the relationships within it. This is combined with an introduction to PSPP so that you can embark on your statistical journey with the minimum of fuss.

In this one-day course David will look at what significance testing is and how different types of data and questions can require a range of statistical tests to understand the relationships within the data. Some of the significance tests used during this course include: chi-square, t-test, correlation and ANOVA.  The delegates will be shown how to run these techniques using the built in interface as well as how to start writing your own PSPP syntax.

You will need to supply a laptop with Excel 2007 or later; PSPP will also need to be loaded prior to the course (a link to PSPP will be supplied before the course starts). This is a hands-on course and you will be introduced to the statistical tests via practical sessions and user documentation which help you to understand what the best test is.  During the course we will predominantly be using Excel and PSPP (prior knowledge of these is not required).

If you do not have access to a laptop, I have a limited number that can be hired for the duration of the course. All course material will be provided on the day by the course trainers. Places on this course are very limited. This course is a pre-requisite for the Modelling and also the Advanced Questionnaire analysis courses.

The cost of this course is £195 for NFP organisations and £250 per day for commercial organisations.

Introduction to Modelling Using PSPP

Date:                 20th October 2017
Location:           Cirencester
Trainer:             David Dipple
Bookings:          Please contact David at david.dipple@btinternet.com

Learn how to build statistical models using PSPP. You will learn about how to approach a modelling project, the importance of understanding the data and also how to build your own propensity models. We will concentrate on using the following techniques:

  • Proxy/fuzzy models
  • Binary Logistic Regression

We will examine the technical and statistical aspects on modelling and then go through how to build models using a number of techniques. We will also examine techniques for measuring the success of a model.

It should be noted that delegates will need to have experience using PSPP/SPSS syntax and/or attended the one my other to PSPP courses; the course will not be intelligible without this basic knowledge. Any of the models created can be converted from PSPP syntax to SPSS syntax with only a minor amount of reworking.

There are some key differences between SPSS and PSPP in terms of modelling and if a pure SPSS course is required this can be supplied but will need to be carried out and arranged privately.

You will need to supply a laptop with Excel 2007 or later PSPP will also need to be loaded prior to the course (a link to PSPP will be supplied before the course starts).

Advanced Questionnaire Analysis using PSPP (with a little help from R)

Date:                 27th October 2017
Location:           Cirencester
Trainer:             David Dipple
Bookings:          Please contact David at david.dipple@btinternet.com

Learn how to take your questionnaire analysis to the next level. You will learn how to take a basic questionnaire and make the result come alive using some advanced statistical methods:

  • Questionnaire Analysis Techniques
  • Basic Clustering
  • Key Driver Analysis
  • Multiple Correspondence Analysis

Insight SIG Launches New Training Programme

Great! Launch of New Training Programme! Yahoo! I said Yahoo!

We are pleased to announce that we can now offer a new range of training courses for members, based on commonly requested and needed skills in the sector.  Yes we believe it is worth shouting about!  Yahoo! (OK I’ll stop now).

These courses are aimed to be relevant to anyone in fundraising working in both small and large organisations, and focus on getting the best from tools such as excel, fundraising reporting, attrition and campaign testing.  These are all important skills and valuable to any organisation wanting to make the most of their fundraising.

Great Trainers

Stuart McCoy and Julie Pitt are two of our experienced trainers that are providing the courses on the SIGs behalf, with many years of experience in working in the sector and delivering analysis in fundraising.  They have seen many of the challenges that are frequently encountered and have many shortcuts and tips to help even experienced analysts become more efficient.

Great Value courses

We are conscious that many budgets are under pressure so have kept our course costs to a minimum, and they really represent excellent value and a great way to improve your knowledge and skills.

Please note that due to the venues and need to keep training personal there are limited places only and so places will be given on a first come first served basis.  You can book by following the link here, where you will find details of when, where and how to book for your course.  It will also tell you what you may need to bring, and what you don’t.

So we hope you find our courses are great, and hope you will shout about them too, or tell one of your colleagues.  Just one more, Yahoo!

Best
