			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>At the Insight conference last week, the after-lunch plenary spot was given to Huw Davis, who spoke on a subject close to my heart: data visualisation. Early references to the work of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Tufte">Edward Tufte</a> and <a href="http://www.perceptualedge.com/blog/">Stephen Few</a> were an encouraging sign but, sadly, some technical gremlins led to a number of images from his presentation not appearing, including one representing Napoleon&#8217;s Russian campaign of 1812 by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Joseph_Minard">Charles Minard</a> (regarded by Tufte as probably the best statistical graphic ever drawn). Hopefully we should have the presentation up here and available for download soon but, in the meantime, here&#8217;s a peek:</p>
